Flex Prep for Final Busy Weekend of Regular Season
By Craig Fata
Bloomington, IL– Fans of the Bloomington Flex will find out sooner rather than later whether the team will finish the 2014 regular season with a perfect record.
That’s because the Premier Basketball League has moved up the start of the playoffs to avoid having to play a potential championship-deciding game on Easter Sunday. The Flex (16-0) will now end the regular season Saturday on the road against the Lake Michigan Admirals. They had been scheduled to play the Lima Express on Fri., April 4 at home in the regular-season finale.
“It’s the right thing to do,” said Craig Fata, director of operations for the Flex. “It’s better for everyone involved, especially the fans, if they don’t have to worry about a game on Easter Sunday.”
The Flex will wind up the regular season with a pair of games Thursday and Saturday. Thursday, the Flex will host the Chicago Tide (3-13) at 7:05 p.m. C.D.T. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. The Flex originally were originally scheduled to host the Admirals that night, but due to schedule issues the adjustment had to be made.
The Flex have beaten the Tide in all three previous meetings this season, the most recent of which came on March 20. Chicago is led by Cedric Ridle, who is averaging 23.3 points per game.
The Flex will then close out the regular season Saturday at Lake Michigan (6-10). The Admirals, hampered by losing a number of players to overseas contracts, are led by mid-season addition Kwan Waller, who averages 18.6 points per game. The Flex beat the Admirals in both previous contests earlier this season.
Chris Singletary continues to lead the Flex in scoring at 23.1 points per game, despite being inactive the past three games due to an off-court matter. Singletary could return to the active roster as soon as Thursday.
Tickets are available for Thursday’s game by calling the Coliseum box office at (309) 434-2679 or by visiting Ticketmaster.com. The first-round playoff schedule will be announced in the coming days.
Lima Excited for Thrilling Games to Wrap Up March
Lima, OH- The Lima Express have a great weekend of games coming up! After losing a few close games, some of which were road games, the Express are looking forward to a couple possible wins back at home this weekend as the season winds down.
First on Friday night, the Express will host the Pee Dee Vipers at 7:00 p.m. This is the first time the two teams will meet for the battle this season. It will be a very high-intensity game as the these are two of the strongest teams in the league, both in their inaugural PBL seasons.
The Express (5-9) are a stronger team than what their record shows. Just two weeks ago it looked like they were going to be the second team from the Midwest division to reach the post-season. Then they reached an unfortunate cold streak where they presently are on a four-game losing streak, and five of their last six.
Sunday, the Express host the Erie Hurricane. These will be the first time these two have met since the Express season opener when they defeated the Hurricane 151-81 at home. The Hurricane (1-13) are in last place in the PBL right now, but Lester Jones of the Hurricane has been one of the most exciting players to watch averaging 30 points per game.
Tip-off for Sunday's game will be at 3:00 p.m. in Lima, Ohio.
Lake Michigan Hoping to End Conquer the Undefeated Flex
St. Joseph, MI- The Lake Michigan Admirals are not having the best of times right now. They are currently on a two-game losing streak and dropped four of their last five.
So there will be no victory so sweet for the fans in Michigan than if the Admirals (6-10) can be the first to beat the Bloomington Flex (17-0).
The division rivals first met this season on February 20th the Admirals lost by 33 points. Two days later was the last time these two competed against one another, and the results was similar but this time Lake Michigan lost by only 21.
The Admirals best shot on the offensive and defensive side to control the game will be in the hands of Courtney Blackmore. Blackmore leads the league in both steals (43) and three-pointers (36). If the Flex can shut him down and set the proper picks to keep him away from being able to steal the ball then this could be just another victory to add to the Flex.
Tip-off for Saturday's game in Michigan will be at 6:00 p.m.
Indianapolis Hosts Pee Dee in Battle of the Second Placers
Indianapolis, IN- The Indianapolis Diesels (9-5) will host the Pee Dee Vipers (10-5) in hopes for a what will be a repeat match of what happened just last week on March 23rd.
The Diesels topped the Vipers 104-101 last Sunday in Indianapolis. Indianapolis was led by David Inabnit who scored 29 points including seven three-pointers.
Also scoring high numbers for the Diesels was Jermaine Dearman who notched 28 points and completed nearly 70-percent from the field.
Tip-off for Sunday's game is set to start at 7:05 p.m.
Rochester for Battle against Lynchburg
Rochester, NY- The Rochester Razorsharks (16-1) will finish up their 2014 regular season when they host the Lynchburg Titans (1-10) this Sunday, March 30, at the Blue Cross Arena at 2:00 p.m.
Rochester has won 15 straight games and might be playing their best basketball of the season right now. Rochester is coming off a 169-120 win over the Titans, the 6th largest margin of victory in franchise history.
Scott Rodgers put up the third triple double in ‘Sharks franchise history against the Titans with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. Eleven players finished with double figure scoring for Rochester in the blow-out win.
Jamal Francis was the lone bright spot for the Titans last weekend, scoring an incredible 46 points, including going 19-22 from the free-throw line.
Rochester is 2-0 against the Titans this year and are averaging 151.5 points per game against Lynchburg in those two victories.
Rochester is averaging a PBL leading 123.9 points per game on offense and the Titans have the second worst defensive points per game average in the PBL this season (130.1), so Rochester is expecting another high scoring game.
Rodgers was asked about his performance last weekend and if he expects to do as well this time around, “I was just in a flow that last game (in Lynchburg), I knew I had some good individual statistics and my teammates were hitting all their shots so I was just having fun out there playing the game I love. I wouldn’t say I am going out next game looking to duplicate those type of stats, I am just going to go out there and do what the team needs me to do to keep this winning streak going heading into the playoffs.”
Rochester will host the Carolina Pee-Dee Vipers next weekend to tip-off the Premier Basketball League Eastern Conference Championship on Sunday April 6 at the Blue Cross Arena.
History will be on the Razorsharks side as they have made it to the PBL championship series for six straight seasons. The ‘Sharks have a tough challenge ahead of them to make it seven straight championship appearances, the Vipers have played Rochester as well as any team in the league this year and the Vipers are the only team to beat Rochester so far this season.
With a win over Lynchburg this Sunday, Rochester will finish with their best regular season winning percentage in franchise history.
Razorsharks & American Cancer Society Team Up
Rochester, NY- The Rochester Razorsharks are hosting a shoe drive on Sunday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. to help benefit the American Cancer Society. Fans can bring high heels, sandals, flip flops, work boots, old shoes, and even single shoes to donate- and shoes that cannot be worn will be repurposed!
There will be a box placed next the customer service table as fans enter the arena. Individuals who donate shoes will automatically receive one free ticket when they purchase a single game ticket.
