The PBL Opens Midwest and Northeast Division Play this Weekend

The Midwest Division opens up play this Friday evening at 7 PM with the Lake Michigan Admirals heading to Racine to take on the Storm.

Owner Chris Glisson has become a veteran leader in the PBL and continues to improve his franchise year after year, and the Admirals will look to their talented 6’6 returning guard Odgra Bobo, former Racine Storm All-PBL forward Anthony Spencer and a slew of impressive signings to compete in the Midwest this season.  Racine will be heading in to their second season in the PBL and attempt to make some serious noise in the division.

Exciting play coming out of the Midwest continues Saturday evening with Grand Rapids tipping off their season heading into Danville to take on the Riverhawks at 7 PM. The Cyclones take to the road starting their second season in the PBL after a successful inaugural season. Coach Kris Bell, returning star Ayron Worthington and a slew of talented incomers will lead the Riverhawks in their second PBL season.

Capping off the opening weekend in Midwest play brings one of the most anticipated match-ups with the defending champion Rochester RazorSharks heading to Owensboro, Kentucky to face off against defending ABA champion the Kentucky Mavericks.

This offseason the Mavericks relocated from Shreveport to Kentucky and will host all opponents inside the 5,000 seat Owensboro Sportscenter.  The Mavericks this season will be lead by widely renowned Head Coach Steve Tucker. With over 30 years of experience and 500 wins as a college or professional coach, Tucker will look to quickly overthrow the RazorSharks atop the PBL.

Following the lead of newly appointed Head Coach Chris Daleo and veteran guard Jerice Crouch, the RazorSharks will attempt to continue their dominance atop the PBL and win an unprecedented third PBL title in a row.

The PBL opens up Northeast Division play this weekend with the division opener Rochester RazorSharks heading to face the Jamestown Jackals Thursday evening at 7 PM.

The RazorSharks will look to start their season off with a victory in a campaign to complete the crown jewel in professional sports, the three-peat. But, let’s not overlook the newcomer Jamestown looking to spoil the party.  Jamestown will be led by Owner Kayla Crosby heading into their inaugural season and a very competitive Northeast Division.

The Northeast will continue its opening weekend on January 9th with a duo of games in New York starting with Chautauqua (formerly known as Erie) taking on incoming powerhouse the Western NY Thundersnow. Heading in to their home opener the Thundersnow will be lead by reigning PBL MVP Troy Jackson Jr., who may have been the biggest signing this offseason. Steve Mackey will lead the Thundersnow against his former team in a tough season-opener against Jerome Moss and the Chautauqua Hurricane at 4 PM.

The second match-up of the evening will be held in Buffalo at 7 PM, with the Buffalo 716ers returning to the PBL hosting recent newcomer the New England Shamrocks. Devon Dawson and Jonny Marsh will be spearheading the talented 716er’s roster facing newcomer New England whom are looking to make a quick splash of noise in their inaugural season.

After an exciting double-header of action, a quick turn around will follow the next day with sleight of games on January 10th. The triple-header will begin with the Jamestown Jackals heading to Chautauqua to face the Hurricane at 2 PM. Game two of the day will be New England heading to another Northeast newcomer Providence for the Sky Chiefs home opener.  Playing at the same time 4 PM in game three has crosstown rivals the Buffalo 716ers pitted against the WNY Thundersnow.

This weekend should be filled with many exciting match-ups, which include the inaugural contest for four new PBL additions.  The Northeast Division has added multiple competitive franchises for this upcoming season creating another difficult road for the RazorSharks to achieve the coveted sports three-peat.

Live updates and scores will be provided from each team’s social media handles so be sure to give them a like or a follow. The PBL will also be providing frequent score and news updates throughout the weekend at www.thepbl.com, and the official PBL Facebook and Twitter handles.

Rochester RazorSharks Announce Major Signing before Opening Weekend

With RazorSharks opening night nearing, the RazorSharks have revealed the signing of 2014-2015 PBL MVP Troy Jackson, along with former RazorSharks point guard Kyle Randall.

These prove to be two impactful acquisitions as the team heads into the second full week of camp.

Troy Jackson played his 2014-2015 season for the Erie Hurricane of the PBL. He averaged 29.5 points per game, on his way to earning PBL League MVP honors for his performance over Erie’s 10 game regular season. This was highlighted by a 42 point performance against the RazorSharks, which grabbed the attention of fans, players, and coaches alike.

Even with his outstanding performance last season, Head Coach Chris Daleo appreciated the mindset of Jackson coming into camp. “Troy Jackson undoubtedly proved himself in this league by winning MVP last year. He is an intense competitor who played very well at our two free agent camps. I think it says something that the league MVP comes to free agent camps to compete. Troy played and competed hard as ever at both of them.”
