The Premier basketball League (PBL) today announced the first of their yearly award winners, with Melvin Council capturing the 6th Man of the year award.  Council wraps up an outstanding PBL season, having captured the Playoff Most Valuable Player award earlier for the RazorSharks.

The Razorsharks were able to utilize the talents of Council off the bench, and it provided them with the firepower to capture their third PBL Championship.  Averaging 15.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists for Rochester, Council provided not only the statistical output the Razorsharks needed, he also provided them with the veteran leadership in crucial times during the season.
“Melvin has been an important part of the Razorsharks franchise for many seasons,” said Razorsharks Head Coach Chris Iversen.  “His veteran leadership and ability to make the big play for us all season was a major factor in our capturing the championship this season. This is a well-deserved honor for Melvin.”

Rochester RazorSharks Proclamation Day

The accolades did not stop at the PBL trophy ceremony for the Rochester RazorSharks as the 2015-2016 PBL champions received a proclamation day in the city of Rochester after winning their third straight title. The three-year running PBL champions received their honorary day on June 14th from Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren. Prior to the RazorSharks winning the championship, Mayor Warren agreed to a friendly bet with the mayor of the city’s opposing team the Buffalo 716ers, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. Mayor Warren won the bet and at the proclamation day everyone received free buffalo wings from Mayor Brown.

Lake Michigan Admirals Overseas Tour

The Lake Michigan Admirals are having an eventful offseason, as they start their overseas tour on August 26. The offseason tour has a total of four stops ranging all around the globe. The tour starts in late August and ends in early January.  The Admirals will start their trip in Xinjiang, China, which will last from the 26th until the 29th of August.

After playing in Xinjiang the team will head to Beijing, and shortly after their stop in Beijing the Admirals will fly to Girona, Spain for the Spain section of their overseas tour. The team will be partaking in the 32nd annual BBVA tournament in Spain, which will last from August 31st until September 6th.  Wasting no time after the Spain portion of the Admirals tour, they head to Bexhill-on-Sea, England. The native Michigan team will be playing in the World Cup Championship in Bexhill-on-Sea. The Lake Michigan Admirals will wrap up their tour in the Caribbean Sea, as the team visits Jamaica on December 27th. The team will be raising money to help fund the construction of outdoor courts for the local community. The Jamaican section of the tour finishes up on January 3rd. As the Lake Michigan Admirals summer tour comes to a close they look to start the next PBL season in January on a solid note. Good luck to the Admirals overseas as they take on some of the world’s top talent!

Orest Hrywnak 1956-2016

A major contributor of the RazorSharks organization was lost earlier this month, as Orest Hrywnak passed away. Without the late Orest Hrywnak there is no Rochester RazorSharks. He was one of the main contributors and administers for why the RazorSharks are where they are and who they are. His passion and love was not just for the RazorSharks, but also for the city of Rochester as a whole. Orest was an icon in the local radio scene in Rochester as well as being an intricate part to the RazorSharks. May Orest Hrywnak rest peacefully.
